What to Expect After Teeth in a Day

A revolutionary new method of tooth replacement, Teeth in a Day is quickly gaining popularity among patients who desire fast results for their smile restoration. Just as the name suggests, this innovative method allows for fully functional artificial teeth to be placed in just one sitting. Where traditional implants can take months to produce the desired effect, Teeth in a Day offers a dental implant with a working tooth in a single appointment.

Teeth in a Day is a vast improvement upon the traditional dental implant, where waiting periods can keep you from replacing your missing teeth as soon as you would like. Like conventional dental implants, Teeth in a Day implants still require some healing time for the implant to be successful.

After your appointment

Implants associated with the Teeth in a Day system are precise appliances that are surgically inserted into the jawbone where tooth loss has occurred. The oral surgeon is careful to place the implant exactly where it is needed so as not to disturb the surrounding nerve and tissue. Most people report no complications from implants. Although the procedure is fairly straightforward and extremely safe, it is still a surgery and must be treated as such.

Side effects

Pain is one of the most common side effects directly after Teeth in a Day are installed. The anesthesia administered during the surgery will only numb the pain for so long. A few days after surgery, a slight, usually dull throbbing pain can occur. In most cases, this pain is mild and can be remedied by an over-the-counter pain reliever. Aspirin is not recommended as it can increase the risk of bleeding from the healing area in the mouth. Instead, reach for ibuprofen as it can reduce swelling as well as quell the pain.

Bruising sometimes occurs after surgery. Bruises can present on the outer cheeks as visible spots, or they can be internal. If you suspect bruising, try holding a cold compress to the area for 20 minutes or more. This will reduce swelling and promote healing while numbing the area.

What to eat

Try to eat soft foods that are easily digestible. Applesauce is a great option, as it is not only soft but it is high in vitamin C which can boost your immune system. Broth-based soups, mashed potatoes, plain yogurt and oatmeal are all allowed foods after your Teeth in a Day procedure.

What not to eat

Even though the tooth is already functional, keep in mind that we want to keep your discomfort at a minimum and promote healing. Eating crunchy or chewy foods can have a negative effect on the healing process and your comfort. Avoid chewy, crunchy and spicy foods after your Teeth in a Day surgery. That means no popcorn, nuts, chips, crackers or candy. Pieces of these foods can get stuck in the wound, and spicy foods can irritate the incision site.

Steer clear of alcohol and other dehydrating beverages, as they have a tendency to increase pain and swelling.
